Rev. Hugh, Teacher & Resident Monk

 

Rev. Hugh Gould is the resident monk and teacher. He was ordained as a Buddhist monk in 1988 by Rev. Master Jiyu-Kennett and trained as a novice monk at Shasta Abbey for 9 years. Following Rev. Master Jiyu’s death in 1996 he continued his training with Rev. Master Daizui MacPhillamy, one of Rev. Master Jiyu’s senior disciples, at the Fugen Forest Hermitage for 9 more years. During that time Rev. Hugh received the Dharma Transmission in 1997, became a teacher in 2000, and was named a Master in 2003. In 2006 Rev. Hugh joined the community of Throssel Hole Buddhist Abbey in northern England where he was a resident monk for over 13 years. In June, 2021 Rev. Hugh was appointed as prior of the Eugene Buddhist Priory.
